I’ve noticed that some companies tend to promote developers too quickly, giving people a Senior title after only a few years of experience. That’s often not enough time to develop a lot of experience.
Steve Yegge made an interesting observation about maturity and years of experience in Portrait of N00b. He might have been going overboard, but suggesting that someone with a decade of experience is basically adolescent in experience.
