Much of the video is a push to move away from special purpose tools that lock up your knowledge and data, pushing you into a repeated upgrade cycle. He suggests moving to a format that you have full control over: text (or more specifically markdown in many cases).
He takes this a little further by pushing all of your documentation and process to git (or specifically github) making process more open and reliable.
